I have always had a longing desire to organize my family's memories in a way that captures the simple moments of life and records details of our past. My son will be 7 years old in just a few weeks and thus far I have failed at this goal. I have made many commitments to myself of new ways that I will achieve this goal, but I have always fallen short. My many attempts have left me with piles of unorganized photos and many hours of frustration.
That changed this year! I have been wanting to involve myself in a "photo a day" type memory book for quite some time but have felt overwhelmed with the idea of what I would actually do with all the photos once I had them. The sheer thought of sitting down and trying to keep track of dates and journal entries during this super busy stage of my life has made me not even want to try. I bow down to the moms that have the patience and dedication to complete beautiful decorated scrapbooks.
At the end of last year around christmas time, I got an ad for chatbooks in my email. I had heard of this company that turns your Instagram images into an adorable photo book before and had wanted to give it a try but suddenly an idea sparked in my brain. I decided that maybe I could use this simple photo book service as a way to realize my "photo a day" dreams.
I came up with a plan. I would set up an Instagram account dedicated *SOLELY* to the purpose of my photo a day challenge. I have the account set to private and follow 0 people and have 0 people following me. I use it only as a diary of sorts. While I have a personal Instagram account I could have used, I don't really love the idea of flooding my friend's newsfeeds with my random photos of the day (you're welcome friends, you're welcome). I began January 1st adding a photo to my account and captioning it with the date and a small entry about our day.
Here we are July 6th and I am happy to say that I have stuck with this little goal of mine (I just patted myself on the back). I don't typically post everyday but I do make an effort to get on my account at least once a week and post for the previous week. I don't follow any particular posting rules either. There have been 2 or 3 days that I haven't taken any pictures and some days that I couldn't pick just one image so they have more than one. I know I know I'm a crazy rule breaker, a rebel without a cause some might say.
A couple weeks ago I decided I needed to bring this project to life so I ordered my first two chatbooks. At only $8 a book with virtually no work (hallelujah!!!!!!!) from me these books are seriously a godsend. I received my first books in the mail yesterday and I am so incredibly excited. Finally an easy way for me to keep our memories recorded without an overwhelming amount of work.
Chatbooks is a subscription company so every time I post 60 pictures (each book contains 60 pages) they will automatically send me a book. Can you even believe how easy this all is? I almost feel like I'm cheating life, after all the years of admiring complicated scrapbooks, I have found a way to record the memories I want to remember forever. SOMEONE PINCH ME, IS THIS REAL??!!
So if you too are looking for an easy way to keep up with your family memories but don't have the time or patience for other methods I invite you to give the Chatbook photo a day challenge a try. I promise you will not be disappointed with the "easy-ness" (don't know if it's worse that I made that word up or that I was surprised when autocorrect told me it wasn't a word) of this method.
